I was born anno Domini 1964. My father who died at a young age considered very important that my sister and me learned music, so we started the violin in the music school. Thank God the Csík Enseble has become more and more popular, thus besides Hungary I was invited to play music abroad as well. Hence I could see almost all the world.
It is a great honour for me that with the album: Karácsonynak éjszakáján (Christmas Eve) I might be a part of families’ holiday dinners.
Let this music be my Christmas present for you, as I compiled it not only from the thoughts of poets and musicians, but also from old ritual songs.

In this recording we have tried to demonstrate the variety and beauty of Hungarian folk music through our choices of Hungarian, Romanian and Transylvanian pieces.”
Specialty of the record is that we can discover a new side of Mihály Dresch, a giant of home jazz as member of the Csík Group. We can see that he is just as excellent in playing authentic folkmusic as he is in improvising when there is space for it.

"It is difficult to compile a new record that meets the expectations of music lovers following our previous album (awarded "The Wold Music Record of the Year' in 2007 in Hungary), which was so successful both among folk musicians and fans. We have tried to do our best, and we hope the variety of the tunes will be appreciated by the listener.
Many people wonder and discuss what kind of music has future in our ever accelerating and hectic lives. I think we all share those basic human feelings, trusths that can be discovered in folk music. So, if we play this music truthfully, independent of their age, lovers of all music genres will find it enjoyable.
Bands try to bring joy to music lovers in various ways and genres. I think in our constantly changing world, if we strive for the best quality, we can preserve the true values of old times, and delight our listeners, who are exposed to so many kinds of music theese days.
I hope as you listen to this music your heart will be lifted up as was minde when I played."

One of Hungary's most popular táncház band Csik Ensemble are on this released joined by Kálmán Magyar (member of New York based Életfa Group), and Ukraine born Cimbalom player Alexander Fedoriouk amongst others.
These recordings are the result of Csik Ensemble's own research in Hungary Moldavia and Romania, as well as that of pioneering work done by György Martin. To aid the arranging of these songs they have also studied film footage of old traditional csardas dancing and ritual folk customs.
Csík Ensemble, which plays traditional Transylvanian and Hungarian village music, was founded in Kecskemét, Hungary, in 1988. Over the years they have become popular playing at dance-houses and concerts both in Hungary and abroad. Previously, they have been awarded the titles of "Young Masters of folk Art" and "Eminent Art Ensemble".

"The songs revolve around the theme of marriage, expressing the joys and sorrows, the reflections and celebrations of a young lass at the turning point of her life."
Extract from sleeve notes:
"Think it over young lass!" sings Marianna Majorosi, for whom - unlike the majority of her modern contemporaries - it is not the spoken word but the song that seems to be the meet authentic language through which she can fully express her thoughts and dings. She sings of the destiny of women, young and old, of their experiences and sagacity in connection with pair selection and marriage, the most significant turning point in their lives. She employs precise, sublime form, citing from the masterpieces of Hungarian folk-poetry, which convey a wide range of deep emotions and rich ideas.
Choosing one of the fundamental rites of passages of human life she presents not only the customs (The Wedding) or merry aspects (The Feast) of marriage, but also the way a girl becomes acquainted with young men at large or small scale revels. She shows us that a girl might sometimes suffer disappointment, even in her fiance, and lays the importance of the marriage decision before us in The Ceremony....
While Marianna describes the joy, merriment, sorrow and grief of women's destiny, she also offers a stylish and tasteful glimpse of the rich variety of Hungarian folk wedding customs. However, it cannot simply be stated that the listener is holding only a collection of folk customs. This disc, besides giving an overall picture of Hungarian tradition, creates an atmosphere whereby we can easily put ourselves in the position of a girl when she sets out for the church or when she is swirling in the bride's dance.
The music which accompanies the girls' singing from beginning to end is not only an excellent complement to the songs, but also demonstrates some of the wealth of regional variation to be found in the folk tunes of the Hungarian minorities across the Carpathian Basin, and adds further colour to the spirit that pervades these songs.

"Authentic Hungarian folk music from Bogyiszló (West of Hungary) can be heard on this recording and you can hear how it was played by a gypsy band in the seventies. Also a new style of "csardas" from Györgyfalva is performed by musicians from Kalotaszeg and you can listen to an unusual work in which gipsy dance and American swing is mixed.
This is a short preview but I think music will tell you everything."
A magyarországi népzenei élet 10. éve elismert közreműködője a Csík zenekar. Népszerűségüket számos sikeres koncert, táncház és zenei kiadvány tette egyre népszerűbbé, nemcsak itthon, hanem külföldön is. A szakmai közönség elismerését az is bizonyítja, hogy 1991-ben elnyerték a Népművészet Ifjú Mestere címet. 1992-ben pedig a Kiváló Művészeti Együttes díját is megkapták. Sydneyben, a 2000.

This recording presents a great variety of musical genres: from authentic folk music, to traditional blues and alternative rock arrangements; from Romanian dance music to the Hungarian poem “I’m roaming about” by the poet Attila József. These days it is more and more difficult to give people a musical experience, which inspires respect and admiration for the beauty and sincerity of Hungarian folk music. We trust, however, that when someone listens to this recording, even if folk music is not part of their everyday life, they will have a musical experience that will make them listen to this kind of music with pleasure.
